apparently today is Ganesha Chaturth   that is the first day of the celebration for  "Ganesha's birthday".
it is considered unlucky/bad/unfortunate to look at the moon tonight, apparently.

anyway, one reason you may want to know this is that all your Hindu tech support folks have the day off.......
